Panoramic Route of the Picon


DDESCRIPTION OF THE ROUTE
The "Panoramic Route of the Picon" runs through the parish of Arca, highlighting beautiful places of cultural interest and great beauty, which are easily accessible with the refurbishment of several roads and with the help of the virtual audio guide, which tells us and leads to different assets, in addition to making us a graphic and documentary of each description.

This route is intended to be a pleasant journey through the most emblematic places in this parish of O Pino, creating a predefined route which passes through the environment of one of the most important mountains of the municipality, the Mount of the Picon, which gives its name to this route, as well as lead to the user by the historical nucleus of A Rúa and the mills of Astrar.

This route also passes through magnificent natural landscapes such as the oak wood of Santa Cristina or geodetic point of Arca, popularly known as"O Marco". In the site of O Marco, one of the highest points of the Council, there is a lookout, from which you can see the territory of the municipality of O Pino and its region.

The main objective of this route is to learn about the rich heritage of the parish of Arca, within the Municipality of O Pino, and the enhancement of its natural environment, creating a trail that provides an interesting and enjoyable tour of this area, and with the virtual audio guide for the description of roads.

LENGTH OF THE TOUR
It is a circular trail about eight and a half kilometres of length. The starting point for this trail offers accommodation at A Rúa (42 ° 54'46, 8 ° 21'13) and passes through places of O Picón, O Marco and Astrar to return to its starting point.

OAK FOREST OF SANTA CRISTINA
Beautiful oak forest with large trees.


O MARCO
Geodetic point of higher altitudes in the municipality of O Pino from which there is a stunning panoramic view of the neighbouring municipalities of Santiago de Compostela, Boqueixón, Touro, Arzúa, Frades and Oroso among others.

CORREDOIRA AND ASTRAR WATERMILLS
Beautiful "corredoira" which links the places of Astrar and A Rua. This "corredoira" runs along the bank of two watermills.

Fluvial and Botanical Route of Mera River

DESCRIPTION OF THE ROUTE
The Fluvial and Botanical Route of Mera River runs along the bank of the Mera River, from the place of the river beach of A Tarroeira, where it joins the River Tambre until the Church of Gonzar.

The route is divided into two portions. The first section runs from the river beach of A Tarroeira up to Ponte Puñide, where you will find the famous Roman Bridge of Ponte Puñide and the famous watermill of Pena. The second section goes from Ponte Puñide to the parish church of Gonzar. It is a walk along the Mera River for lovers of the natural and cultural heritage, who also enjoy the botanical route, intending to make a short trip to visit the Church of Gonzar elders.

This route is intended to be an invitation to knowledge and interpretation of the values and natural resources of the environment riparian the Mera River, through the use of new technologies. The banks of this river, allow the creation of a path, taking advantage of beauty and natural species of the margins of your course as well as the remains of assets which are still preserved, as several mills.
 

Each of the natural species is properly signaled through identifiers of vegetation, which explains the name of the plant or corresponding tree with small information on the characteristics of the samea.

LENGTH OF THE TOUR
This botanical route forms a linear route of about 4,300 metres approximately, along which are marked each of the natural elements of greatest interest, without harming either the species or the landscape.

The route has its starting point in the river beach of A Tarroeira, passes through Ponte Puñide next to the watermill of Pena, to the Church of Gonzar.


MAJOR HERITAGE ATTRACTIONS

ROMAN BRIDGE OF PONTE PUÑIDE.Beautiful Roman Bridge. This place was Roman settlement, as a matter of official station, we found several objects of the time as a modium and a bronze figure, as well as a sestertius, and a tegula. This place is an interpretative table of the Roman Via XIX, which passes through this place
WATERMILL OF PENA. The watermill of Pena was a real industry, dedicated to grinding grain, as well as being a sawmill's wood, within the municipality of O Pino. It provided for many years an indispensable service to the residents of the region, using as a driving force behind the waterfall of the River. The industry, by its very nature, was becoming a meeting point for people and place where they were the news while waiting for the turn to grinding or sawing. The factory continued to work until the decade of the 1970s, although in recent years is only used as a mill. By then, the father of the owner, had built a sawmill with modern technology and which ran on electricity. In 1998 they began the work of rehabilitation of housing, which ended in 2003 when the watermill of Pena became a rural tourism house.



CHURCH OF GONZAR.
Beautiful church, of Baroque style and Latin cross plan, has a stone cross beside it very beautiful. This church hides the history of Josefa de la Torre, a neighbor of O Pino, who spent several years without eating or drinking and was given fame of saint.
