Church of Lardeiros

The patrimonial walk around O Pino provides us interesting places to enjoy. An highlight is the Roman bridge located in the parish that shares its name with the city council. Here, in a place known as A Ponte Puñide, challenging the passing of the years and centuries is a small Roman bridge, located over the Mere river. In its surroundings several Roman pieces were located, among them an important brass Modium with measures different from those of the time, which makes the experts think that they are local measures adapted to the Roman ones. It is dated between the years 360 and 370.

The Religious mARK

Another of the reference points is the church known as Catedral de la Montaña (Mountain Cathedral). It's the Church of Lardeiros. Rising splendidly against the horizon, in a small valley, in lands of Montaña, just like the poet Aurelio Ribalta described, appears the landscape of O Pino. Combined with one of the most interesting stone crosses in the city council. We know that it was sculpted around the year 1700. In it two artistic tendencies so different as Neoclassicism and Baroque, give hands. The pedestal is adorned by a long inscription. In the shaft and the capital the straight and geometric planes presiding over the neoclassical works are in order, such as those that left the compostelan cradle to leave their mark in neighbouring lands, such as O Pino. The cross represents the Baroque part of  this work of art. In it a Pietà with the dead son in her arms was sculpted and the crucifix wide apart from the cross.

Another frequent visit in O Pino is Santa Irene's hermitage, in Arca. The small but well preserved religious construction is next to a water source where the saint's image, dating back to the year 1692, existed. Icon sculpted in granite, with a little more than half meter of height. The image was stolen in 1989. The legend states that the water of this source was used for watering the vegetable gardens, with the purpose of putting an end to the presence of plagues. Also, it is said that Santa Irene cures children of their afflictions and those prone to crying too much, by passing under her image in the chapel. Her festivity takes place June 29, in a pilgrimage traditionally carried out by the single youths of the parish; the eldest of each family has the obligation of paying an annual quota.

Noble bUILDINGS

Also, in O Pino there are preserved historical and elegant buildings bound to noble lineages and noble families that settled in different places of the municipality. Three of them stand majestically even today, challenging the laws of the past and testifying in their stones little folds of live and events rich in details. All of them are private and are not, a priori, open to tourist visits. A fourth manor, known as Pazo das Dúas Casas (in the village of A Rúa, in the parish of Arca) that only keeps its coat of arms. Another coat of arms exists in an old house of the parish of O Pino but this lineage is still being investigated.

Manor of the Marquis of Montesacro

xPlaced in Bermás, in the parish of O Pino. After several swerves of the winding road, we locate the building which counts in its wide gardens the biggest cedar in Galicia, a magnificent tree 18 meters high and 90 centimetres of diameter at the base of the trunk.

The architectural group presents, besides the main building, an elegant barn and a chapel that years ago was partially destroyed by a fire.

In front of the main entrance a majestic natural avenue flanked by two arrays of trees can be found. They remember one of those scenes that take the walker to one of those evocative stories from writers such as Emilia Pardo Bazán and her Pazos of Ulloa. At present, the manor (Pazo) is property of D. Manuel Alonso Martínez.

Manor (Pazo) of Porto Outeiro

This building has simple lines. It shows us a single coat of arms in its façade. It dates from the XVIII century and in it we see the armed arm of Vilardefrancos, the tree of the Leis, the wolf of the Moscoso and the tower of Pardiñas or Riobó.

Unlike the previous manor (pazo), in this occasion the sight line is interrupted by a high wall that prevents the building from being seen.

Inside the farm a pigeon-house built at the end of the XVI century by Pedro Rey do Barral. The manor (pazo) is in the parish of Medín.

Manor (Pazo) of Picón

The Pazo is located in Arca, hardly two kilometres of the Consistorial House. The immense farm that surrounds the building still keeps big trees of different species. A green and dense mantel that, surprisingly, drives the eye to the impressive group of buildings, also of private property.

Its coat of arms bears a certain resemblance with the one in Porto Outeiro. From the roof, a small battlemented tower of recent construction stands out.

Inside, a garden stands out with a laborious and labyrinthine botanical architecture and the help of old box plants laboriously sculpted.

In its external entrance we find a stone cross, while the chapel is located inside the farm.
